How Novak Djokovic reaches the final of the US Open:

Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic is one step away from clinching all four Grand Slam titles this season, a feat unattainable in more than half a century, with Russia’s Daniil Medvedev the final hurdle in the US Open final.

Djokovic has dropped a set in his last four matches, likely a function of his decision to skip the entire swing on the North American hardcourt; opting instead to work his way through the tournament. Djokovic‘s last four opponents, Holger Rune, Jenson Brooksby, Matteo Berrettini, and Alexander Zverev, are also extremely dangerous in their own right.

Locked at two sets apiece in Friday’s semifinal against a near-flawless Zverev, Djokovic put the nail in the coffin when he raced to a 5-0 lead in the fifth set. In addition, Djokovic and his all-time great return game cause big problems for Medvedev, who, in addition to his consistency and defense, relies heavily on free points won on serve. Djokovic will deny him that luxury and force Medvedev to make tough decisions early on.

How Daniil Medvedev reaches the final of the US Open:

For his part, Medvedev has been showing a superior level throughout the US Open 2021, which is why the Russian wants to put on the suit of Djokovic’s executioner and drown his dream.

In addition, personally, he will be looking for his first Grand Slam in his third final. The previous lost to Nadal in 2019 (just at the U.S. Open) and Djokovic (in Australia in this 2021). In the semis, he defeated Canadian Auger Aliassime in a convincing way: 6-4, 7-5, 6-2. He is very sharp, having lost only one set in the whole tournament. Medvedev, 25, has won 12 trophies in the ATP world.

Prediction for the Men’s Final between Djokovic and Medvedev

The moment everyone has been waiting for has arrived. Tennis will have its most important chapter of the Open Era and Djokovic is the guest of honor. The Serb will carry all the pressure that comes with being in the big books of the sport. He is one stroke away from achieving something that was only achieved 52 years ago and that possibly no one will be able to achieve again in a very long time. He will have an unfriendly opponent, ready to steal all the flashes.

Medvedev feels he is at the right moment to make the definitive leap. Long established among the best players on the circuit, the Russian knows he can’t let this opportunity pass him by. He will have to abstract from the context and do his job to perfection. He dropped only one set in the whole tournament and unlike Nole he almost never found himself in a difficult situation.

There is no way of knowing what will go through the heads of both players, but they will have to mask all those feelings as best they can. The tennis world will be waiting for September 12, 2021, to be a historic day and we believe that it will be, where we also believe that the Serb will win the US Open title.
