Grêmio vs. Botafogo Preview and Betting Odds

Estadio Kleber Jose de Andrade Gremio

With a remarkable battle for first place in the Brasileirão, Botafogo will try to regain the top against a Grêmio team in the doldrums.

The Tricolor Gaucho failed to build on last season’s successful campaign and now dwells in the lower part of the table with three losses in a row.

O Fogo took the first place for a brief while before an unexpected loss to the surprising Bahia took them down. Now, they want to recover it and come with two wins in a row.

Why Bet on Grêmio?

The match will be hosted by a struggling Grêmio, placed at the 13th spot on the board after suffering from a three-match losing streak. Those games add to the defeat in their debut and two wins that came in a row, giving them a record of 2-0-4.

The Tricolor Gaucho has just one win in its last four games in June and suffered a 2-1 away loss to Flamengo on their previous outing last Thursday. Edenilson bagged the consolation goal.

Apart from a solid run in the Libertadores that got them second place in Group C, they have shown many flaws in the Brasileirão. Overall, they don’t seem capable of recovering from the departure of Luis Suarez as an offensive anchor, and their defense has never been good since their return to Série A.

Why Bet on Botafogo?

The third-placed Botafogo will be the visitors for this clash. Like in the first half of the last campaign, they look like a threat, coming with five wins, a draw, and two losses so far. They have scored the second most goals this season, only one behind the leaders, and their defense seems to have improved from the terrible displays given in the second half of 2023.

They extended their unbeaten streak to seven games in all competitions after their 1-0 home triumph over Fluminese. Defender Bastos was the man to score the only goal for the match during the second half, with fellow defender Damian Suarez providing the assist.

They shared the same fate as Grêmio in the Libertadores, landing second place in their group behind a surprising team, this time, Junior de Barranquilla.

Betting Analysis: Grêmio vs. Botafogo

In the last 34 games, there has been a frantic supremacy by those from Porto Alegre, with 18 wins contrary to 10 from those from Rio.The previous five games tell a similar history with four victories for Grêmio and a sole one for Botafogo.

Last season, their encounters were quite dramatic, as the visitor won both times. However, the most remarkable match was the last one, as the Tricolor Gaucho was one of the teams who contributed to O Fogo’s dramatic downfall from the top, coming back from being 3-1 down to win 3-4 in extremis.

The historical data says this is a difficult match for Botafogo, but they already won in Rio Grande do Sul last season and will repeat the dose this time. We’ll go for a 0-2.
