Why Bet on Corinthians?
After a torrid season where they barely escaped the battle for relegation in the last few weeks, Corinthians started another season dwelling near the bottom of the table with one win, three draws, and four losses. Seeing defeat in half of your league matches to this point is a terrible omen for a team this size.
In the same way, getting only one league win in eight games and against a terrible Fluminense has set the alarms.
Antonio Oliveira’s men failed to score in three games in a row. First, came a goalless draw with Fortaleza, and later the defeats against Flamengo (2-0) and Botafogo (1-0), before ending that scoreless run in the 2-2 draw with Atlético Goianiense last Tuesday.
Despite the underwhelming league start, the Todo Poderoso has thrived in its domestic cup matches and advanced to the first knockout round after winning its Copa Sudamericana group. It is not weird for Brazilian teams to perform much better at the international level, considering the competitiveness of the Brasileirão. However, their prowess at the cup level would be of little use if they fell in the relegation zone.
Why Bet on São Paulo?
São Paulo is showing its ambition to compete for the league title, as it has been sporting an undefeated run since April. Luis Zubeldia was appointed on April 20, two days after a 2-1 loss at Flamengo, the last time the Tricolor Paulista fell this season.
Nine of the 12 matches under Zubeldia have ended in victories, with Palmeiras and Internacional holding them to goalless draws in the league and Ecuadorian outfit Barcelona SC doing likewise in the Copa Libertadores.
Despite the recent draw with Internacional, the in-form side should head into Sunday’s match with confidence of avoiding defeat, owing to an ongoing five-match run in all competitions without conceding.
A success for the Soberano here could see it end the game atop the Brasileirão on goal difference, but they need to beat Corinthians and hope joint-top Flamengo and Bahia (both on 17 points) lose, and Botafogo and Athletico Paranaense (both 16 points) drop points. Although highly unlikely to happen, this highlights the improvement of the team, considering that their performance in the Série A in recent years was terrible, to the point that they fought to avoid relegation a couple of times in the recent past.
Betting Analysis: Corinthians vs. São Paulo
While Sao Paulo is arguably missing more influential attacking players than Corinthians, the away side’s results since Zubeldia’s appointment and recent wins over their hosts (three consecutive victories in this fixture) mean the visitors are backed to record their fourth straight triumph over the struggling side.
Expect this to be São Paulo’s show, as the visitors take another three points home and make their way closer to the top spot on the board. Go for a 1-2.
Go for a victory for the visitors at 2.59. If you bet $100 at such odds, you could get $159 for a total payout of $259.
