Palmeiras achieved a very important victory against a tough opponent and is now only one point behind the leader, Botafogo. It was a 2-1 victory thanks to a penalty double by Raphael Veiga.

Botafogo suffered a hard blow after failing to beat Grêmio at home (0-0) and seeing its lead over its pursuers cut, as it now only leads Palmeiras by one point and Fortaleza by two.

Although there were no goals, it was a very entertaining match, with many clear chances on both sides and more than goalkeepers’ saves, it was the players’ poor finishing. Botafogo even scored a goal and celebrated, but it was disallowed for offside by Bastos in the 87th minute.

Botafogo remains at the top of the Brasileirão with 57 points, while Grêmio continues to move away from relegation and now has 32 points, four points ahead of Corinthians.

The Paulista derby, played in Brasília due to concerts at the Morumbí, went to São Paulo, who beat Corinthians 3-1, complicating their relegation situation.

The Timão always had to row against the tide because already in first-half stoppage time, the VAR called the referee to review a foul inside the area by Fagner, who already had a yellow card. The referee awarded a penalty and sent off the defender. Lucas Moura was in charge of the penalty and scored.

In the second half, the VAR again called the referee to review a play between André Ramalho and Luciano, and the judge decided to give the red card to the Corinthians defender, who now were down 1-0 and had two men less after 64 minutes.

Fortaleza continues to be one of the revelations of the Brasileirão and, this time, beat Cuiabá 1-0 at home to close to within two points of the leader, Botafogo.

Hércules was the hero of the day after scoring the only goal of the match. In one of the last plays of the first half, Breno Lopes launched a cross from the left, which was cleared by the visiting defense, but the ball was left loose, and the midfielder appeared to finish and score the 1-0.

The Leão remains undefeated at home with 12 wins and three draws, reaching 55 points, while Cuiabá sinks in the table, as it is second to last with 23 points.
