After matchday 16 in the Brasileirão, Botafogo and Palmeiras managed to take first place in the standings after Flamengo was surprised at home by Fortaleza a few hours ago.

Atlético Mineiro gave a blow on the table in this match at the MRV Arena against São Paulo, to take a great 2-1 victory that can help the team wake up and start climbing up the table.
The Galo was on top all the time, as it was far superior throughout the match. This dominance began after Eduardo Vargas’ goal in the 13th minute, which gave the team much more confidence. However, São Paulo managed to recover quickly to score the equalizer just 5 minutes later thanks to Lucas Moura.

Like Atlético Mineiro, Palmeiras also respected their home ground against Atlético Goianiense to win 3-1 and climb, along with Botafogo, to the top of the Brasileirão.
Palmeiras were infinitely superior to their opponents in this match, to the extent that they had 23 scoring chances with 6 shots on goal. This dominance resulted in the team’s first goal in the 6th minute, scored by José Manuel López. However, 3 minutes later, Atlético Goianiense would equalize the actions with a great goal by Shaylon.
However, at this point, the visiting team completely disappeared from the match, even though they managed to keep the score 1-1 until the end of the first half.

Finally, the big surprise of Matchday 16 was Flamengo’s terrible 1-2 home loss to Fortaleza. Things were strange, considering that the locals had 71% possession of the ball. However, the visitors were able to take advantage of the minimal opportunities they had to take the lead on the scoreboard.
Things started very well for Fortaleza, as in the 11th minute, Wesley França scored an own goal to put the visiting team ahead. However, in the 39th minute, Pedro Guilherme dos Santos equalized, scoring a penalty kick.
In the second half, Flamengo continued to attack Fortaleza left and right, but, in another defensive lapse, Fortaleza was able to take advantage to score the definitive 2-1 through Juan Martin Lucero.
