Nina Hughes vs. Cherneka Johnson Preview and Betting Odds

Copa America 2024

Last Updated on May 7, 2024 2:41 pm by Erwin Noguera

We have a long trip to take this Saturday night and Sunday morning, asgo to the RAC Arena in Perth, Western Australia, for an amazing six-bout card labeled as the “World Title Tripleheader”.

The Card has Vasyl Lomachenko and George Kambosos Jr. as the main event for the IBF World Lightweight Title. In addition, it features Andrew Moloney and Pedro Guevara clashing for the Interim WBC World Super Flyweight Title.

It also has the fight we are focusing on right now, with the undefeated champion Nina Hughes defending her WBA World Female Bantamweight Title from Cherneka Johnson. People may believe that Hughes is too green for a champion, but the displays of boxing she has done so far have been impressive enough, and she comes to do her 2nd defense of the title and keep people silent.

When and Where?

Saturday, May 11, 8:00 pm ET at the RAC Arena in Perth, Australia

Ring Walks Time:

(Estimated) 10:00 pm ET

Moneyline odds:

Nina Hughes 1.427

Cherneka Johnson 17.5

Where can I watch it?

ESPN+ and Star+

Why Bet on Nina Hughes?

The Grays-born 42-year-old fighter Nina Hughes has held the WBA bantamweight title since defeating Jamie Mitchell in 2022.

She has fought six times in her professional career and has a perfect record in those fights. While it seems like quite a small record for a fighter at her age, the champion has had some incredible performances, and that is what has brought her so far in such a short amount of time as a professional boxer.

Nina Hughes has only defended her WBA title once and is preparing to do it for the second time.

Hughes turned away the challenge of unbeaten Katie Healy over ten rounds to defend her WBA bantamweight title for the first time. The win was her third over an undefeated opponent in her last four fights.

Why Bet on Cherneka Johnson?

The champion takes on 29-year-old New Zealander Cherneka Johnson, who has fought 17 times with 15 victories and two losses in her career.

Johnson saw her title reign end on the June 10 show. The 28-year-old (better known as “Sugar Neeks”) fell short of the supremely talented Ellie Scotney over ten rounds to lose her IBF junior featherweight title.

She has now stepped down a division to become a two-division titlist, and she has both experience and the younger age very much on her side for this bout in Melbourne.

Final Betting Analysis: Nina Hughes vs. Cherneka Johnson

Thisis going to be a great fight to watch, but things seem to point out for Nina Hughes to be the favorite by far in this clash, even though her opponent can’t be counted out at any point.

It is just due to Hughes’ crazy good performances in quite a short career that we can’t give good reasons to support Johnson in this fight.

We expect both fighters to come out swinging, but we think Hughes will be the one with her hand raised at the end of this clash after a unanimous.

Go for a victory for the champion at 1.427. If you bet $100 at such odds, you could get $42.7 for a total payout of $142.7
