Unexpected and historic so will be the women’s final of the U.S. Open this Saturday that will star the British Emma Raducanu, 18, and Canadian Leylah Fernandez, 19. Neither Raducanu, number 150 in the WTA ranking, nor Fernandez, 73 º, needed to be seeded to reach this appointment with history. The daughter of a former Ecuadorian footballer and a Canadian mother of Filipino descent, Fernandez eliminated no less than two champions and the tournament’s second and fifth favorites to reach the final.

As Leylah Fernandez reaches the final of the US OPEN:
The Canadian’s journey has been anything but smooth. Stone by stone, the young Leylah has built an unparalleled path, brushing aside the biggest obstacles. It’s no easy feat to beat Ana Konjuh, the talented Croatian looking to make a comeback, in the first round; nor is it easy to beat the experienced Kaia Kanepi in the second.
From there, the fireworks and the real bang: a historic victory over Naomi Osaka. It came to subtract to stay in the match (5-6 down in the second set) and against which signed an epic comeback under the lights of the Arthur Ashe. Later came another exercise in escapism against a champion of Grand Slams as Angelique Kerber; signing an identical match script in which she saved the furniture in the tie-break.
With the quarter-finals approaching, Fernandez decided to double the stakes. Her fearlessness and bravery, especially at important moments when she doesn’t seem to shy away in any way, outweighed the desire to be crowned after many attempts by two of the absolute elite, Elina Svitolina and Aryna Sabalenka. Leylah shattered the dreams of the Ukrainian in the third set tie-break; meanwhile, in the semifinals kept his composure in the deciding set and despaired the Belarusian.
How Emma Raducanu arrives at the US OPEN Grand Final:
If Leylah Fernandez‘s path has been full of long matches, full of turning points and important moments, Emma Raducanu has decided to dodge those obstacles and take several shortcuts that only she knows. Her US Open journey does feel like one of those stories where a little girl gets to know something.
Call it the X factor, call it magic, or just don’t put any adjectives to it; the reality is that Emma has knocked down the door and has reached this final without suffering.
Yes, as you hear it. A woman who already at Wimbledon showed her enormous potential, but who retired in the fourth round battling against the internal anxiety that a tournament like this produces in you; in two months that extra pressure has been channeled so that her tennis overflows with hammer blows. Raducanu’s game is clean, neat, a sparkling ray that walks around the court knocking down everything he faces.
From the second serve itself, very good, it seems that the arsenal of Emma knows no weaknesses: backhand overflows to anyone, his energy on the track and perfect footwork allows you to be well-positioned always, and the confidence she has in his game also allows you to pass the plan B and hold defensively.
Prediction for the US OPEN women’s final between Raducanu vs. Fernandez:
Sit back, relax, and get caught up in the spectacle of women’s tennis. Iga Swiatek or Bianca Andreescu won their first major at 19: this time we have two candidates to do so, and one of them is not even of age yet. At a time when the women’s circuit is eager to have names that hook the viewers, the circuit factory returns to bring out two products that enrapture you with their tennis, catch you with his character and you end up falling in love with his personality. Leylah Fernandez and Emma Raducanu, two teenagers who will try to take New York by force. We think it will be Leylah Fernandez who will win the US OPEN.
