MotoGP travels to Silverstone this weekend, August 6th for the ninth round of the 2023 season. Following a month-long summer break, the 2023 MotoGP season resumes this weekend with the British Grand Prix.Â
This year, the competition will use the same layout and paddock as Formula 1 at Silverstone, which means Copse will now serve as the opening turn.
MotoGP has also tweaked its weekend format for the second half of the season and beyond, with times from only the second practice session determining which riders will progress directly into Q2.
As part of the overhaul, the second practice session of the weekend will simply be known as Practice and the third practice will be rechristened FP2.

Whether racing on two wheels or four, Silverstone plays host to the most outstanding racers on the planet, with MotoGP races returning to the legendary circuit in 2010. Many racing categories buzz with anticipation at racing flat out around Copse (Turn 9) and the Maggots-Becketts-Chapel complex (Turns 10-14).
For MotoGP, the last seven British Grand Prix have produced seven different winners. Five previous winners are in the 2023 field, including legend Marc Márquez, who won back in 2014.
Two riders have won at Silverstone for Suzuki at the time: after a year of absence, Àlex Rins won the 2019 edition of this Grand Prix, while Maverick Viñales won back in 2016.
2021 Riders’ World Champion Fabio Quartararo won the British GP in his championship-winning season (2021). Francesco Bagnaia leads the MotoGP standings and is looking for his second consecutive win at Silverstone, having won last year (2022).
