MLB April 8th: Red Socks vs. Yankees

The Red Sox will not be creeping up on anyone this year, and opening the year on the road against the Yankees will not be easy.

Boston, will be riding a wave of confidence and energy into this game, thanks to their AL Wild Card victory against the Yankees.

Boston doesn’t have any position player concerns to worry about, which helps. Chris Sale (ribs) and James Paxton (elbow) will be out until the end of the season, but the absence of Josh Taylor (back) in the bullpen might hamper the team’s depth over the weekend.

After another strong season for the Red Sox, Nathan Eovaldi will start the season opener for Boston.

Last year, high expectations were placed on New York, and a sluggish start to the year did not help.

After a great finish, which included domination over Boston during the All-Star break, expectations for the playoffs were raised once again, only to be shattered during their Wild Card trip to Boston.

With a quieter offseason than normal, the Yankees have their sights set on reclaiming control of the AL East, which is shaping up to be baseball’s most competitive division.

A victory over Boston would be crucial, but a defeat might spark a lot of discussion in the city even after only one game.

On the mound, the Yankees are dealing with their own set of problems, with 3 starters or relievers already declared out indefinitely.

With Ben Rortvedt (oblique) declared out until the middle of the month, the Yankees’ starting pitcher is a significant question mark.

Gerrit Cole will start the game for the Yankees on Friday, and after having his year terminated in the Wild Card game at Fenway Park, he will be aiming to rebound in this one.

New York is the division favorite once again this year, but Boston has a good opportunity to keep it tight, if not sweep it.

Eovaldi is outstanding against the Yankees, particularly in high-pressure circumstances, and he will be able to bring that confidence into Friday’s game.

Cole’s problems in the Wild Card game Boston’s lineup is still deadly, and their absence at the bat might impact the Yankees.

MLB April 8th: Orioles vs. Rays

Last year, Baltimore was 26th in the league in runs scored, averaging 659 throughout the season while hitting .239 as a team.

The Orioles hit 195 home runs, which was enough for the 19th best in Major League Baseball.

While there aren’t big hopes for this Baltimore team, it isn’t all doom and gloom.

The Orioles’ lineup has several interesting batters that should pose a danger to opposing pitchers throughout the season.

Cedric Mullins, a center fielder, was a notable player last season, compiling a 30/30 season with an amazing mix of power and speed.

Ryan Mountcastle, a 25-year-old hitter, continues to progress and will seek to build on a 33-homer season a year ago, while Trey Mancini gloriously returned from cancer treatment by smashing 20 big flies.

The Rays are a machine in recent seasons, constantly fielding a contender despite consistently placing in the lowest third of the league in salary.

In 2022, they’ll try to keep their winning recipe going.

The Rays were 6th in the league in home runs with 222.

Brandon Lowe, Randy Arozarena, and Wander Franco are expected to be key players in what could be a robust roster once again.

The Rays also have a strong pitching staff.

In addition to McClanahan, top prospect Shane Baz, who returns from injury in a few weeks, should be entertaining to watch this year.

Corey Kluber, a seasoned veteran, should help bring veteran consistency to the middle of the rotation.

While the rosters are rearranged, there is no indication that the Orioles will be able to compete with Tampa Bay this season.

Expect McClanahan to fool the Baltimore hitters, and the Tampa offense to produce enough against Means to secure a comfortable victory.

MLB April 8th: Rangers vs. Blue Jays

The Texas Rangers are coming in with an up to snuff spring training session.

The team managed to sweep 10 wins last spring and carries along with a batting average of .315, with a total of 53 runs, 14 home runs, and 69 hits.

Texas was led by shortstop Corey Seager and second baseman Brad Miller, both of whom drove in five runs, a couple of home runs, and a batting average of .455.

Meanwhile, center fielder Elier Hernandez batted with an average of 1.000 percent.

The Blue Jays have a batting average of .274, including 113 hits over 79 runs.

Leading the team is first baseman Greg Bird, who swung out two home runs and drove in six runs.

Meanwhile, second baseman Santiago Espinal delivered seven runs batted in, along with a pair of home runs.

The entire team is pitching an ERA of 4.85, to go with a WHIP of 1.26 and 116 strikeouts all in all.

For Friday’s game, Jose Barrios is selected as the Blue Jays’ starting pitcher.

The Texas Rangers pack a solid offense, however, their defensive department might give up a few runs to the Toronto Blue Jays in the end.
