The WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play is a men’s golf tournament that has been part of the World Series of Golf since 1999. Currently, this prestigious tournament is part of the PGA Tour, the European Tour, and the Japan Golf Tour. One of the attractions of this tournament is the $12 million prize pool it has and the $2.1 million that the golfer who finishes in the first place will win. This means that it is the highest-paid individual competition in this Match-Play modality in the world.
This WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play will take place over five consecutive days, from Wednesday, March 23 to Sunday, March 27, 2022.
The initial 16 groups of four players in the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play are on fire. Of the 64 participating professional golfers, only 16 will remain who reach the round of 16 and continue fighting for a title from Wednesday to Sunday in Austin, Texas. There are some notable absentees, including Rory McIlroy; also two recent PGA Tour champions, Australian Cameron Smith and American Sam Burns.
But the world number one is in charge, the Spanish Jon Rahm, who will open against the Colombian Sebastián Muñoz in a group that is completed by the Americans Patrick Reed and Cameron Young.
Other interesting groups are, for example, Group 3, with Viktor Hovland, Will Zalatoris, Cameron Tringale, and Sepp Straka, Group 5, with Scottie Scheffler, Matthew Fitzpatrick, Tommy Fleetwood, and Ian Poulter, or Group 11, with Jordan Spieth, Adam Scott, Justin Rose, and Keegan Bradley.
System
Each player will play three games, against each of the rivals in their group. You will add one point for each win, half a point for a tie, and zero points for a loss. The player in the group who scores the most points after completing all the matches will access the knockout rounds; if there is a tie, a playoff will take place.
