MLB Weekly Preview 27

2024 MLB Season

With just over a week to go until the end of the Major League Baseball regular season, some teams need to continue winning to secure their position in the postseason, as is the case of the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The reigning National League champion is in the wild card position and will start the series against the San Francisco Giants.

The Philadelphia Phillies at least secured the wild card, but the Chicago Cubs are the ideal rivals to win the division crown.

Meanwhile, the Boston Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays will play for honors, while the Houston Astros have the chance to seal their qualification against their direct rivals, the Seattle Mariners.

The Philadelphia Phillies have already secured at least their place in the National League wild card. However, the mission is to ensure the East division, where they have a wide gap over the New York Mets and the Atlanta Braves. Kyle Schwarber is having a great season, with 99 RBI and 36 home runs. Other names to keep in mind are Alec Bohm, Bryce Harper, and Nick Castellanos.

The Chicago Cubs’ roster was not enough to win the National League Central division, and the wild card is too far away to be a reality. The Cubs will settle for finishing the year with a positive record and a great performance by Ian Happ, who has 25 home runs, 85 RBIs, and is hitting .247.

The Toronto Blue Jays want to close the season improving a little the poor image they have presented, which has them last in the Eastern division of the American League. They are coming from being swept in the last series against the Tampa Bay Rays, while their most outstanding face was slugger Vladimir Guerrero, who has 30 home runs and 100 runs batted in.

At one point in the season, the Boston Red Sox had a chance to get into the postseason via the wild card, but they went downhill and now they do not even have their third baseman Rafael Devers, who is injured. Improving down the stretch will depend on Jarren Duran and Triston Casas.

Blue Jays vs. Red Sox Betting Pick: Blue Jays

MLB Weekly Preview 27: Astros Houston vs. Seattle Mariners

The Houston Astros are close to securing their spot in the Postseason, as it seems unlikely they will lose their division to an inconsistent Seattle Mariners. They won their last series against the Angels, although they lost their previous game to a disastrous reliever, Josh Hader. The two most dangerous names in this club are catcher Yainer Diaz and designated hitter Yordan Diaz, who, between them, have 168 RBIs and 51 home runs. Hunter Brown will be their starting pitcher. This season he has an 11-8 record with a 3.57 ERA.

The Mariners have a chance to close the gap in this series. If they sweep they still have options, but to do so they need strength in their arms, starting with their starter, who will be Bryce Miller, who has an 11-8 record, with a 3.08 ERA. They must pay close attention to catcher Cal Raleigh, who has 94 runs batted in and 30 home runs.

Astros vs. Mariners Betting Pick: Astros

MLB Weekly Preview 27: Arizona Diamondbacks vs. San Francisco Giants

When?Monday, September 23 at 9:40 pm, 8:40 pm CST, 7:40 pm MT, 6:40 pm PT

The Arizona Diamondbacks are in a tough fight to keep their place in the National League wild card, so this series against a dangerous Giants is crucial. Ketel Marte, with his 93 RBIs and 35 home runs, is their big star, but we must also mention the role of Eugenio Suarez, who has 98 RBIs. Their starting pitcher will be Eduardo Rodríguez, who has a 3-3 record and a 5.09 ERA.

The San Francisco Giants were not at the level of their rivals this season, which is why they will not reach the Postseason. Their role is reduced to being a judge at the moment, but this does not mean that they do not have players to take into account such as Matt Chapman and Heliot Ramos. Young Hayden Birdsong is the starter for this club. His record is 4-5, with a 4.74 ERA.
