The Mexican driver of the Red Bull Racing teamSergio “Checo” Perez, managed to cap off a wonderful weekend last Sunday, when he took an excellent victory at the Monaco Grand Prix, one of the most important races for the drivers of Formula 1, mainly due to the difficulty of this street circuit.

It was a fantastic weekend for the Mexican driver, as he was always ahead of his teammate, the current world champion, Max Verstappen from free practice to qualifying in Pole Position. Perez came to this GP with the main mission of showing all his talent after in the last Barcelona GP he had to let Verstappen pass by the order of the team.

Race Start

The race had many hiccups from the start, with the FIA stewards having many doubts as to the start of the race due to rain as well as electrical problems. Charles Leclerc started as the favorite to take the victory, starting from the #1 position after an excellent qualifying round. But, a mistake by Ferrari sending him to the boxes; left him without a chance against Sergio Perez who was grown.

From there, Checo managed to climb to first place in the race, and his main and only rival from then on was the Spaniard Carlos Sainz, who was the only one who had the speed and the tires to overtake him.

As in every Monaco GP, a red flag was on the drivers’ horizon after Haas driver Mick Schumacher had a catastrophic crash where the car was split into 2 or even 3 parts. After the race restart and, with Leclerc still upset with his mechanics, Verstappen in third place, and Carlos Sainz stalking Pérez, it was only a matter of time before the Mexican took the victory, since, Monaco is one of the most complicated tracks to overcome of the entire world motorsport championship.

Standings

Thanks to this victory for Checo Perez and the 25 points added, he has greatly reduced the advantage that Verstappen and Leclerc had over him, to 15 and 6 points respectively.

Carlos Sainz, second finish, was the one who changed the sign of the race, by refusing to put intermediates after the wet tires and go directly to the dry ones.

Although Sainz came close to passing Perez in the last 10 minutes of the race, this was because Checo’s Red Bull was suffering from graining on the medium tires. Meanwhile, Sainz’s Ferrari was on the hard tires. The difficulty that exists in overtaking in Monaco is very high unless a driver makes a mistake.

Charles Leclerc started as the favorite in all the bookmakers and, after winning the Pole Position in Monaco it is practically impossible to lose the race. Checo Perez managed to take the victory and, having bet $100 on the Mexican’s victory, with a bet (odds) of +2200, you would have won a prize of $2200.
