Turkey Grand Prix F1 Preview

The top motorsports event, Formula 1, returns this weekend in its 16th race of the 2021 season. As in 2020, it will race again, on the beautiful and complicated circuit of Turkey. The 20 riders arrive at this Turkey GP after a well-deserved week off, following the difficult race in Sochi.

In the Russian GP, everything was going normally, the drivers were doing a very good race. However, one of the most complicated variants in an F1 race, the rain, made its star appearance. The change in weather made the strategies of all the teams turn dramatically, which helped World Champion Lewis Hamilton snatch first place from Lando Norris.

Now, the Turkey Grand Prix is a stop of the World Motorsports Championship that will be run for the second consecutive year. This, after 10 years of absence from the annual calendar. The Istanbul Autodrome, also known as Istanbul Circuit or Istanbul Park (Turkish: İstanbul Park), is located in the capital of Turkey, Istanbul.

This circuit is located to the north of the city, on the highway that connects Istanbul with Ankara. Is important to note that it’s located very close to the recently built Sabiha Gökçen International Airport.

The Istanbul Autodrome layout has 14 curves in total, 6 to the right and 8 to the left, and has a main straight 650 meters long.

GP Turkey was actively present on the F1 calendar between 2005 and 2011. Later returned in 2020 as an emergency race, following the cancellation of many awards due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

In its history, the most winning driver of this GP is the Brazilian Felipe Massa, with a total of 3 victories. He’s followed by Lewis Hamilton with 2 victories (2010 and 2020).

Tensions continue and the battles between the drivers have already moved off the tracks. Even more so after what happened at GP Monza, where it was determined that Verstappen crashed into Lewis Hamilton and was penalized by the F1 technical commission. At the Russian GP, Verstappen started last on the starting grid due to a change in his car; meanwhile, Hamilton started fourth, after finishing in that position on the pole position.

After a race where the rain did its thing, Hamilton managed to finish in the first place of the race adding 24 points that put him, momentarily, in the first place of the World Championship, while Verstappen had an incredible race and finished in second place.

Next, we will see the betting odds of the different drivers.
