Bahrain GP 2023 Preview and Betting Odds

Last Updated on March 3, 2023 1:27 pm by Erwin Noguera

The Formula 1 2023 season is about to begin, and this Sunday, March 5th, we will have all the drivers back behind the wheel for the first Grand Prix.

The Bahrain GP is going to be the opening round for this season and we can’t be more excited about it.

Officially known as the Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain GP 2023, it is scheduled to be held on 5 March 2023 at the Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir, Bahrain.

The first race took place at the Bahrain International Circuit on 4 April 2004.

It made history as the first Formula One Grand Prix to be held in the Middle East and was given the award for the “Best Organised Grand Prix” by the FIA.

The race has in the past been the third race of the Formula One calendar. However, in the 2006 season, Bahrain swapped places with the traditional opener, the Australian Grand Prix, which was pushed back to avoid a clash with the Commonwealth Games.

In 2010, Bahrain staged the opening race of the 2010 season and the cars drove the full 6.299 km (3.914 mi) “Endurance Circuit” to celebrate F1’s ‘diamond jubilee’.

And now, we are happy to have it being the season opener in this 2023 season.

F1 Bahrain GP Betting Analysis

You can usually expect great racing and decent amounts of overtaking in Bahrain, while the drivers have to contend with wind, racing under floodlights, and the difficulty of finding a decent set-up with the wide temperature fluctuations between sessions.

The track’s most challenging point is the tight, downhill, off-camber Turn 10 left-hander, while the fast run through Turn 12 is another highlight, allowing the racers to really feel their cars coming alive.

By the time we get to qualifying for the Bahrain Grand Prix on Saturday, we will have our first idea of how the 2023 F1 season is going to take shape.

With several drivers moving teams during the off-season and with three rookies making their full-season debuts on the grid, the upcoming Formula One season should prove action-packed throughout.

Just like last season, proceedings for the 2023 season will begin in Bahrain where Max Verstappen has been made the heavy favorite to carry on his stunning, winning form that saw him crowned world champion again last year.

Verstappen in first is a likely outcome due to the reliability of his Red Bull car. Though as it’s the opening race, anything can happen.

Leclerc is also a wise pick, especially as the Ferrari driver won this race last season thanks to Verstappen’s DNF.

Elsewhere, value could be had with Mercedes pair Lewis Hamilton and George Russell whilst Aston Martin veteran Fernando Alonso is been widely touted by pundits as a potential danger this season with his new team.

Red Bull’s Dutch driver remains in the form of his career at present and if pre-season testing is anything to go by, Red Bull remains the strongest team on the grid across all areas.

Granted, preseason testing can throw up some interesting results but with the quickest pace of any team last season, Red Bull added some impressive reliability to their skill set in which Verstappen only DNFed twice and only suffered a handful of problems after the summer break.

As such, we shouldn’t see a repeat of the problems that forced him to retire during the Bahrain Grand Prix last season, and it should show in the results of this race on Sunday.

Our picks:

Max Verstappen to start the Season on the top of the Podium.

Charles Leclerc to prove himself dangerous chasing on 2nd place.

Sergio Perez to land in the podium on 3rd.

Carlos Sainz takes the 4rth spot and Lewis Hamilton follows at 5th.
