This weekend, the Formula 1 action returns with the Azerbaijan GP, where Lando Norris will be looking to keep getting closer to Max Verstappen in the fight for the title.
This will be the seventh edition of this grand prix that started in 2017 and where only two teams have won: Red Bull and Mercedes. Last year’s winner was the Mexican Sergio Pérez, the only one who has managed to win twice in this circuit.
This race is in a street circuit in Baku that has a length of 3.730 miles per lap, and there will be a total of 51 laps.

2024 Azerbaijan GP Top Contenders
The European races are over, and McLaren is positioned as the fastest car, so Lando Norris is the main candidate to take first place in Baku. The British driver has been on the podium four times in the last five races and has won one, cutting the lead with Max Verstappen to 62 points.
The MCL38 has been proving to be the best car, however, the team’s management has not been the best when looking for points, as they have not given priority to Norris over Oscar Piastri, denying valuable points to the Briton in the fight for the title, as it happened in the last race in Monza, where he was third behind his teammate.
That said, we have to include Piastri among the candidates. The Australian is having a great year in the F1 thanks to a great car. He already won his first race, and in Monza, he finished second, something he had already achieved in three other Grand Prix this year.
It seems that Piastri’s main rival is Norris, and it was evident in the last race when the team gave them the “papaya rules” to compete against each other. In addition, there have already been very tight maneuvers between the two and frustrated faces when one beats the other, something that can play against them.
Finally, although it is not Red Bull’s best moment, we cannot leave out Max Verstappen. He has now gone six races without a win, and in Italy, he finished sixth. Undoubtedly, the Dutchman is suffering from this situation as it is a car performance issue, but we know the conditions of the driver and that he can pull an ace up his sleeve at any time. We have to trust in him and the Austrian team.

Charles Leclerc comes motivated after his victory in Monza, at Ferrari’s home, rounding off a nice season since he had also won at his home, Monaco. He has three consecutive podiums, showing not only that the SF-24 has improved its performance, but that his team is making good strategies that allowed them to beat McLaren.
Lewis Hamilton is in his last year at Mercedes and wants to say goodbye with as many victories as possible. He has already achieved two in the previous five races, in addition to a third place. It is known that his car is not the best and that he is far from his rivals, but the Briton is an excellent driver and can surprise in a complicated circuit.
Finally, we have to mention Checo Perez. It has not been the Mexican’syear, he started very well, but his level declined along with the car. However, he is the only one who has won in this circuit on more than one occasion and is very good in street circuits.
