Mexico Open at Vidanta World 2025 Top Contenders

After the Signature Event in California, the Genesis Invitational, which crowned Swedish golfer Ludvig Åberg as the champion, several of the world’s top players decided to rest. As a result, there are no clear favorites for this tournament; however, Akshay Bhatia stands out.

The American golfer of Indian descent secured a ninth-place finish last week at the Genesis Invitational, marking his best result of 2025 so far. Last year, he won the Valero Texas Open, his second PGA Tour title. In 2023, he competed in this tournament and finished in fourth place.

Aaron Rai enters the weekend as the highest-ranked golfer in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR), currently sitting at No. 29. So far in 2025, he has played in four tournaments, with his best finish being 15th place at The Sentry.

The British golfer has participated in all editions of this tournament, finishing 24th in 2022, missing the cut in 2023, and placing 19th last year. In 2024, he secured his first career victory at the Wyndham Championship, finished as a runner-up once, and recorded four additional top-10 finishes, making it his best season as a professional.

Patrick Rodgers is one of the most experienced players in the field who has yet to claim a PGA Tour title. The 32-year-old American has played in 287 tournaments, with his best results being four runner-up finishes—two of them lost in playoffs.

Rodgers is coming off an impressive third-place finish at The Genesis Invitational last week, just three strokes behind Åberg and tied with Scottie Scheffler. With that momentum, he is determined to break his winless streak and finally add a PGA Tour title to his record.

Another player motivated to secure his first PGA Tour title is Rasmus Højgaard. The Danish golfer missed the cut last week at the Genesis Invitational, but before that, he finished 12th at the WM Phoenix Open and 22nd at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

Sam Stevens is also eager to experience what it feels like to be a champion. The American came close last month at the Farmers Insurance Open, finishing second, just one stroke behind Harris English. Last year, he competed on this course but failed to make the cut.

Finally, we have the defending champion, Jake Knapp. The 30-year-old American has only one career title, but he achieved it in his rookie season, where he also won the Grant Thornton Invitational, secured third place at the Farmers Insurance Open, and finished fourth at the Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches. He is coming off a 17th-place finish at The Genesis Invitational.
