Arena do Grêmio

The thrills of the Brasileirão continue, and last weekend, we enjoyed some exceptional matches that were part of matchday 29 of the 2024 season.

There is no doubt that this tournament is on fire as we continue to enjoy an intense battle for the top of the table between Botafogo, Palmeiras, and Fortaleza. However, in the previous matchday, O Fogo managed to breathe a little, as in addition to their 1-0 win over Paranaense, the Verdão drew against Bragantino, and the Leao do Pici lost unexpectedly to Grêmio.

Now, everything is in their hands, but the margin of error keeps being close to null.

On the other hand, the relegation fight is also very intense, with very few points separating Corinthians, Vitória, Fluminense, and Parananense.

Below, we bring you the summary of the best matches of this 29th Brasileirao matchday.

The first match we have in this summary was the big surprise of the day, that is, Grêmio’s victory over Fortaleza with a score of 3-1.

Fortaleza is fighting for the top of the table and came into this match with two consecutive victories. However, Grêmio took advantage of its local condition to take the three points.

The match started intense, as in the 13th minute, Alexander Aravena scored the first goal for the home team. However, 5 minutes later, the visitors equalized with a great goal by Hércules Pereira do Nascimento.

At the beginning of the second half, specifically in the 60th minute, the Dane, Martin Braithwaite, scored 2-1 for Grêmio, which gave them peace of mind to face the rest of the match. In the 80th minute, Fortaleza’s Eros Macundo was sent off, which gave the home team a numerical advantage, thanks to which, in the 90+1 minute, Venezuelan Yeferson Soteldo scored the definitive 3-1.

Palmeiras had the opportunity to stay just one point behind Botafogo at the top of the table, but theywere held to a 0-0 draw by Bragantino.

As expected, Palmeiras dominated possession and virtually the entire match. However, Bragantino also had several dangerous chances near the Verdão’s area, but they were unable to take advantage of them.

After a very intense give and take during the 90 minutes, the match was very close to ending 0-0. However, before that, there was a confrontation on the pitch in stoppage time, specifically in the 90+13′ and 90+14′ minutes, where Lucas Cunha was sent off for Bragantino and Gabriel Menino for Palmeiras, respectively.

Seconds later, the main referee blew the final whistle, and both teams left with one point in their pockets.

Result: Bragantino (0) – (0) Palmeiras

Botafogo suffered, but they were able to take three golden points in this away match against a Paranaense team that is struggling and getting closer to the relegation zone.

Although Botafogo took the victory, it is worth noting that Paranaense never stopped trying, as they had 26 chances to score. However, only three of them could end up with shots on goal, which denotes that their offense is going through a terrible moment.

On the other hand, Botafogo was much more clinical, and although they did not dominate the match, in one of the few chances they had before the first quarter of an hour, they were able to score the only goal of the game.

Result: Paranaense (0) – (1) Botafogo

Finally, we close this summary with the match between Bahia and Flamengo, where the visiting team achieved an excellent 2-0 victory to get back into the fight for the top. On the other hand, Bahia’s inconsistent performance has caused them to drop to seventh place.

The match was dominated from start to finish by Flamengo, as they set the tone from the opening whistle. However, it was not until the 35th minute that Ayrton Lucas scored the first goal.

After that, we enjoyed a back-and-forth, where both teams had chances to score, but the effectiveness of the strikers was on the floor.

Finally, when we were all sure that the match would end with a 1-0 victory for Flamengo, Bahia’s Santiago Arias was sent off in the 90+11′ minute after a foul inside his area, generating a penalty that, one minute later, was converted by Carlos Jonas Alcaraz.

Result: Bahia (0) – (2) Flamengo
