There are no Champions League miracles required against the Rossoneri when Liverpool play like this. Slot’s side was outclassing the Italians to such an extent the San Siro crowd turned on their own. 

Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk’s first-half headers were emblematic of a game played almost entirely in Milan’s half, withDominik Szoboszlai adding the ­necessary gloss with a third. 

Liverpool created opportunities at will, Slot’s primary frustration being they did not secure a two-goal cushion until the 67th minute. Gakpo’s pace and power were too much for Davide Calabria, and Szoboszlai responded to his manager’s plea for more goals.

Stuttgart started as the stronger of the two teams and could easily have led in the opening stages, denied by a string of Thibaut Courtois saves. Real Madrid was a bit fortunate to be level at the break but they needed just 30 seconds of the second half to take the lead, Kylian Mbappe poking the ball home for his first UCL goal for his new team. 

Stuttgart, however, was not cowed and they leveled the game with a Deniz Undav header midway through the second half. That set up a thrilling finale and Antonio Rudiger, taking on his former club, rose highest from a corner kick to nod Madrid ahead.

In the final moments, substitute Endrick fired home from 25 yards to claim his first UCL goal and secure the three points for his team.

City had plenty of the ball and searched for a way through Inter’s backline but the Serie A champions stayed strong.

In-form Erling Haaland had a rough 90 minutes, despite showing early promise when he was found in a dangerous position by a Savinho cross. However, the striker’s header was comfortably saved.

The home team stepped up the pace from then, pressing high up and circulating the ball in Inter’s half. City had a tough time cutting through the tight backline, though, and were mostly limited to efforts from the edge of the box.

They eventually managed to work into a great position in the 70th minute when the ball was squared to Phil Foden, but his shot was saved by Yann Sommer. It was Inter who next came close when Henrikh Mkhitaryan got on the end of a dangerous delivery, only to send it sailing over the bar.

City continued to push for the breakthrough but Inter was able to keep them at bay before Ilkay Gundogan saw two late-headed chances pass him by as the game ended goalless.

Barcelona’s perfect record to begin the new season has come to an end in their European debut as the Catalans fell 2-1 to AS Monaco at the Stade Louis II in their Champions League opener just earlier today.

Barça saw Eric García sent off after just 10 minutes and had to play catch-up the rest of the night, and couldn’t rescue at least a point despite competing as hard as they could with 10 men for virtually the entire game.

The last 15 minutes of the period were wild and chaotic: Monaco had some big chances and both teams delivered some hard tackles, and the referee had a tough time keeping control of things and needed to show some yellow cards to try and calm things down.
