It was the most attractive game of the weekend as the NY Red Bulls were undefeated but with a streak of draws that had caused them to lose ground in the East, while Cincinnati had two defeats in a row that caused them to cede the lead to Inter Miami.

Right from the start, the New Yorkers showed they wanted the three points, taking the lead in the 7th minute with Lewis Morgan after a long pass from the defender Dylan Nealis to Elias Manoel, who then set up Morgan for the 1-0 lead.

In the 52nd minute, it was Kyle Duncan’s turn with a great mid-range shot that went into the corner, leaving goalkeeper Roman Celentano looking like a statue, and seven minutes later Morgan appeared again to push a loose ball in the box.

Cincinnati’s goal came in the 67th minute through Corey Baird, but it was not enough, and they now have three defeats in a row and 48 points, five behind Inter. On the other hand, NYRB has eight games without losing and cut a streak of four consecutive ties. They are fourth in the East with 41 points.

However, the visitors had not finished settling in and celebrating the equalizer when Jordi Alba took advantage of a mistake between defender Mauricio Pineda and goalkeeper Chris Brady to score with an empty net to make it 2-1 at 75′.

In one of Saturday’s most attractive matches, Colorado Rapids beat Real Salt Lake 3-2 to close the gap in the Western Conference to just three points.

Despite Colorado’s victory, it was Salt Lake that took the lead with a long-range shot by Andres Gomez in the 9th minute.

However, the home team turned it around with a goal by Jonathan Lewis at 35′ after a great pass from Cole Bassett, and at 39′ it was Sam Vines after a pass from Lewis.

Real Salt Lake, without their goal scorer Cristian Arango, who was suspended, did have another Colombian, Andrés Gómez, on fire. And it was he who made it 2-2 with a powerful shot from the edge of the area.

And when everything seemed to be tied, a handball inside the area by captain Justen Glad was sanctioned as a penalty at 85′ and Bassett changed it into a goal for the definitive 3-2.

Colorado is now fourth in the West with 41 points, while Salt Lake is third with 44 points and a game in hand.
