Why bet on Real Madrid?
The most consistent club in the Champions League in the last couple of decades, the Merengue team reached yet another final with excellent form. They have not lost a European final since many decades ago against Liverpool, so it’s hard to go against them.
Their season in Spain
El Real has been the best team in Spanish soccer this campaign by a mile. They won the league almost one month before the championship finalization, and werealways superior in the key matches against their rivals for the title: Barcelona and the surprising Girona.
They won the four league duels against both teams, reaching an excellent 95-point tally, which was enough to finish with a 10-point advantage over the second. Even though the team has drawn a couple of games in recent weeks, it’s clear it was all due to the squad being more focused on preserving its strength for this duel against a challenging rival that proposes a physical and pacy game.
Their Champions League run
Los Blancos have been the best team in the Champions League by a mile. The only club that came close to them was Manchester City, and they beat them using all of their experience and hierarchy in a tough series that ended up going to penalties.
Apart from their encounter with the Citizens in the quarterfinals, they got rid of RB Leipzig in the round of 18 and dispatched Bayern in a dramatic semifinal series.
We must highlight that, as Pep Guardiola’s side, they won all their matches in the group stage against Napoli, Union Berlin, and Braga.
Why bet on Borussia Dortmund?
Dortmund reached their first Champions League final since 2013 in dramatic fashion, surviving thrilling matches on a regular base and having in the posts a dear ally.
Their season in Germany
One of the reasons that BvB’s performance in Europe is surprising, is because they were one of the disappointments of the Bundesliga this season. Everyone expected that they would be the ones to occupy the German throne whenever Bayern failed to do so. However, contrary to that, and with the Bavarians at their worst, they had their worst league campaign since Jurgen Klopp’s departure.
It was clear that their massive bottle job last season affected their confidence in the league. They lost a lot of points against teams from the lower part of the table and, against their direct rivals, they mostly got defeated. The only high note would be their good win in Der Klassiker at the Allianz stadium some months ago. Their points tally was 63 points, almost 30 less than Bayer Leverkusen.
They finished fifth at the table and, in normal circumstances, would have missed the next edition of the Champions League via Bundesliga, being obligated to win this final. However, the new criteria regarding the qualification gave them a hand.
Their Champions League run
The Champions League already posed itself as a great challenge for this team since day one, as they found themselves in the group of death. Many specialists pointed them as the main candidates to finish last in the group against PSG, Newcastle United, and AC Milan. However, contrary to most predictions, they ended as group leaders, relegating the French team to yet another year as second seed and taking the English and Italians out of the way.
In the round of 16, they had a quiet series with PSV, but the drama started in the quarterfinals. They faced the surprising Atlético Madrid, who beat favorites Inter Milan to reach that stage. They lost in the first leg and were dominated. Notwithstanding, the Colchoneros’ poor form as visitors and their leaky defense showed in the second leg, when, in the Signal Iduna Park, they conceded four goals.
Things didn’t stop there, as they had to face Mbappe’s PSG in the semifinals. The Parisians achieved a great feat by beating Barcelona, turning around the score after losing in the Parc des Princes. However, Dortmund stood firm and, with great effectiveness in attack, a magnificent Jadon Sancho, and a little bit of luck (PSG broke a record of shots to the posts in the series), they eliminated their rivals in the French star’s last season with the club.
Final Betting Analysis: Real Madrid vs. Borussia Dortmund
These teams faced 14 times in the history of the Champions League, and there is a certain parity. Dortmund has three wins, contrary to Real Madrid’s six, and there were five draws.
They have faced many times in the last couple of decades, the most recent being in the group stage of the 2017/18 edition, when Los Blancos won both matches. The last time Dortmund was successful was in the 2012/13 semifinals when a categoric 4-1 win at the Signal Iduna Park, with four goals by Lewandowski, propelled them to the final.
These are two traditional teams in the maximum European competition, and they always are at the center of discussions. However, sadly for Dortmund, their Cinderella fairytale ends here, as Real Madrid, simply, doesn’t lose in Champions League finals. We’ll go for a tight 2-1.
