The Arnold Palmer Invitational is one of the five PGA Tour tournaments in March that brings together the best golfers in the world at the Bay Hill Club and Lodge. The winningest in history is Tiger Woods, with eight triumphs, while a champion has not repeated since Matt Every in 2015.Â

2024 Arnold Palmer Invitational Top Contenders
The top contender to be champion in the state of Florida is Scottie Scheffler, who is currently number one in the sport.Â
From 2022 onwards he has had an explosion in his performance, achieving important victories in the WM Phoenix Open, the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play, a major, such as the Masters Tournament, and The Players Championship.Â
Another highlight for the 27-year-old American is that he already won the Arnold Palmer Invitational in 2022, with five strokes under par and leaving behind competitors of the caliber of Englishman Tyrrell Hatton, Norwegian Viktor Hovland, and compatriot Billy Horschel.Â
The ballots have Scheffler as one of the top contenders and the first to be a two-time champion since Every in 2015, but other golfers plan to prevent this from ending up happening at the Bay Hill Club and Lodge.Â
For example, Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy, who last weekend took part in the Cognizant Classic.Â
At 34 years of age, the European is already a legend in this sport, being champion of three of the four majors, even having the luxury of repeating the PGA Championship. The only one missing in his cabinet is the Masters Tournament.Â
This year he already managed to lift the Hero Dubai Desert Classic and in 2023 he won two more championships: the Hero Dubai itself and the Genesis Scottish Open.Â
But the Arnold Palmer Invitational is a challenge for the Northern Irishman since he has been runner-up once. He lost to Kurt Kitayama in the 2023 edition.Â
Norway’s Viktor Hovland last played the Genesis Invitational in mid-February, finishing 19th. But his talent has him in fourth place in the world and he will seek this year to replicate what he achieved in 2023.Â
Last year he was champion of the Memorial Tournament, the BMW Championship, and the Tour Championship, which confirms that he is in full growth and development of his capabilities.Â
Hovland was runner-up in this tournament in 2022, so it is also a pending account to make his name grow in the PGA circuit.Â
Finally, among the top contenders is American Xander Schauffele, an Olympic medalist who in 2023 drew a blank, but in 2022 won, among other championships, the Genesis Scottish Open. Last year he finished in the top 10 at the Masters Tournament and the US Open.Â
Outside picks
At 31 years old Patrick Cantlay cannot be a name to leave out among those with the ability to make a surprise, since he has been able to win the BMW Championship twice, as well as the Memorial Tournament.Â
He is currently sixth in the world, one place ahead of Wyndham Clark, a golfer who this year won the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and in 2023 lifted the US Open.Â
The Englishman Matt Fitzpatrick also enters this list of good golfers with aspirations, the same case of the reigning champion, Kurt Kitayama, who wants to give another blow on the table in Florida.Â
Prize bag
Like last year, the Arnold Palmer Invitational has a juicy $20 million purse. The champion will take home a cash prize of $3.6 million.Â
