2023 Preakness Stakes Preview and Betting Odds

2023 Preakness Stakes

The Preakness Stakes, one of the three most important horse races in the US, will occur on May 20. The second leg of the Triple Crown will be at the legendary Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland.

As we approach the 2023 edition, fans and enthusiasts of the sport are gearing up for one of the most exciting events on the horse racing calendar. With the Kentucky Derby already in the books and the extraordinary victory of Venezuelan jockey Javier Castellano and his three-year-old colt, Mage, all eyes are now on the Preakness, which holds another exciting race in store.

The event should feature some of the best three-year-old horses in the world. These Colts will try to make history by winning the second leg of the Triple Crown.

The winner of this race will receive the Woodlawn Vase, one of the most prestigious trophies in horse racing.

Will we have a triple crown in 2023?

Since competing in all three Triple Crown races is extremely difficult for horses and jockeys, many tend not to do so. However, Mage’s victory in the Kentucky Derby and his preparation for the Preakness Stakes has raised expectations.

There is a limit of 20 participating horses for each Triple Crown race. Hopefuls must earn points in a series of trials held before this event to participate.

However, many trainers choose not to enter all of them due to the long distance of each race and the short time horses have to recover. As a result, it is not uncommon to have more than ten fewer competitors in the Preakness Stakes than in the Kentucky Derby.

Mage, the three-year-old son of Good Magic, comes into the 2023 Preakness Stakes as a big promise. He will try to maintain his chances of becoming the 14th Triple Crown winner in American horse racing.

First Mission, a son of Street Sense who will run from lane eight, has had a very successful start to 2023 under trainer Brad Cox and Panamanian jockey Luis Saez, finishing second in his debut at Fair Grounds and winning the Lexington Stakes on April 15.

National Treasure is the third favorite, a son of Quality Road who has finished fourth in the Santa Anita Derby. However, he will be backed by legendary trainer Bob Baffert, who has won the Preakness Stakes seven times, most recently in 2015 and 2018 with American Pharoah and Triple Crown winner Justify.

The 2023 Preakness Stakes is expected to be a hotly contested race, with every horse and jockey giving their all to win.

In addition to the main race, other events and activities will be held throughout the day. These include concerts, food and beverage booths, and other entertainment options. It is much more than just a competition: it is a celebration of all horse racing and an opportunity for fans to come together and enjoy the thrill of the sport.
