The matchday 12 of the Liga MX Opening Tournament is over and we have a new leader: a great América who is a serious candidate for the title.
Precisely the Eagles beat another of the candidates, Tigres, 2-1 this weekend at the Azteca stadium. Jonathan Rodríguez and Igor Lichnovsky (own goal) scored for the locals, while André-Pierre Gignac did it for the Felines, who dropped to sixth place. America has 25 points and Tigres 21.
With the same number of points is Monterrey, which has one more game and lost the lead after a goalless draw against Mazatlán, which is 13th and is out of the playoffs.
Pachuca beat Santos 2-0 in a key match to enter the top 4 and, precisely, surpass the Lagunero team. Nicolás Ibáñez and Javier López scored for the Tuzos who are now third with 24 points, 2 more than the Verdiblancos, who are fourth.
Toluca, who played the last game on Sunday, could not at the Nemesio Diez stadium with Chivas and tied 0-0 in a very boring game. The Red Devils continue to drop and are already fifth, out of the teams that qualify directly for the quarterfinals: they have the same points as Santos, but with a worse goal difference and one more game. On the other hand, Guadalajara continues in its good moment and they are already eighth.

Necaxa was another of the weekend’s big winners, as they defeated León 3-2 and moved up 3 places in the table. The Electrics went ahead in the first half with goals from Milton Giménez, Facundo Batista, and Rodolfo Cota (own goal). Víctor Dávila scored a brace for the visitors in added time and they narrowly managed a heroic draw. Necaxa is 7th with 17 points and León 14th with 12.
Querétaro and Puebla tied 1-1 with goals from Ariel Nahuelpán for the White Roosters and Jozy Altidore for La Franja. The locals are last while the visit is ninth.
Juárez managed to rescue a great draw at home against Cruz Azul by 2-2 and remains in last place inside the classifieds (12th). The locals had been left with a man less just 4 minutes after a red card to Javier Salas and the Machine took the opportunity to go 0-2 in the first half with goals from Michael Estrada and Gonzalo Carneiro. However, the Bravos did not stop and managed to tie it at the end with goals from Darío Lezcano, at 86′, and from Darwin Machís, from a penalty at 90+8′. The Cementeros are still outside the playoff group with 12 points in 15th place.
In other matches, Atlético San Luis and Tijuana tied goalless and have 15 points in tenth and eleventh position, respectively; while Atlas and Pumas were also 0-0 and both have 10 points, only above Querétaro. In addition, Dani Alves has not yet been able to win since he arrived in the Liga MX.
