UFC Fight Night: Volkov vs. Aspinall – Results

This weekend we had an exciting fight card, as we only saw one of the fights in the main card reach the judge’s scorecards.

The other 5 fights had exciting early finishes, and as much as we love action, every fight fan enjoys it when the fighters clash early.

We have to point out how the London fighters made the best of the night in front of their home audience.

UFC Fight Night Round-Up – Volkov vs. Aspinall – Review and Fight Analysis

UFC Fight Night: Alexander Volkov vs. Tom Aspinall

Our Pick: Tom Aspinall

Outcome: Aspinal proves he was the better fighter all around and scores an early finish with a straight armbar.

At the top, Tom Aspinall tore through the traditionally tough Alexander Volkov like he was tissue paper. 

Yes, it was a straight armbar that he finished off the big Russian with, but Aspinall was also getting the better of the contest on the feet, an area Volkov was supposed to be more competitive at the very least. 

Aspinall’s wrestling was on par too, timing his shots to get Volkov down with ease. 

There were few doubters left, but Aspinall eradicated all doubts left whether he was the real deal. 

After the fight, he asked for a fight with Tai Tuivasa next, something all fans can get behind.

UFC Fight Night: Arnold Allen vs. Dan Hooker

Our Pick: Arnold Allen

Outcome: Allen had a spectacular performance getting a stoppage via strikes.

The UFC was hoping Arnold Allen could have a breakthrough performance. 

Not only did they get one, but it’s also hard to see how it could have gone better. 

Outside of Dan Hooker stumbling Allen when the two were recklessly throwing fisticuffs, Allen dominated the fight on the feet, an area where Hooker was supposed to have a clear advantage. 

Allen let all his limbs fly, eventually securing a standing referee stoppage about halfway through the first round.

UFC Fight Night: Paddy Pimblett vs. Rodrigo Vargas

Our Pick: Paddy Pimblett

Outcome: The London Rockstar is on his way to becoming a huge star after stopping Kazula Vargas.

Once again Pimblett overcame adversity early in the round, scoring a sick throw to the mat and securing a sweet RNC for the win. 

His detractors will point to him having problems with a guy he was supposed to showcase in Vargas, including getting rocked a bit once again. 

What no one can disagree with: Pimblett is a rock star in England. If he can beat someone most fans have heard of, he’ll be a rock star throughout the world.

UFC Fight Night: Gunnar Nelson vs. Takashi Sato

Our Pick: Gunnar Nelson

Outcome: A dominant comeback for the veteran, making it seem like he had never taken a break.

Given he picked up right where he left off, you’d never know Gunnar Nelson was gone for two-and-a-half years. 

He managed to dominate Takashi Sato with kicks and punches before timing his takedowns, and even though he didn’t sink in the choke, he turned the performance into a dominant three-round decision.

UFC Fight Night: Molly McCann vs. Luana Carolina

Our Pick: Molly McCann

Outcome: A third-round KO from McCann, going right into her Highlight Reel.

The only thing that could top the moment Molly McCann had in the cage would be if she were to win the title someday. 

 Swarming Luana Carolina with punches early with the crowd firmly behind her, McCann was eating up the energy. 

Carolina slowly worked her way back into the fight, but a McCann spinning back elbow in the third put Carolina out cold in a legit KOTY from the beloved Brit. 

The performance cemented McCann as a star, at least in the UK.

UFC Fight Night: Ilia Topuria vs. Jay Herbert

Our Pick: Ilia Topuria

Outcome: Topuria recovers from a hard first round and finds the finish early on the second.

After one round, it looked like we were headed towards the upset city. 

Jai Herbert put a beating on the heavily favored Ilia Topuria, coming way too close to putting him away. 

Topuria didn’t look like he had settled down in the second, but he found a clean overhand that dropped Herbert like a sack of potatoes, maintaining his unblemished record.

The Aftermath:

With Topuria asking for a fight against Pimblett, and Aspinall calling for “Bam Bam” Tuivasa, the matchmakers will have something to think about after this weekend.

Meanwhile, we sit and enjoy after nailing a perfect main card with 6 correct predictions in 6 fights.
