The actions of the World Surf League continue throughout the world. This time, we make a stop at Cabarita Headland to play the 2022 Oakberry Tweed Coast; which will be from the Qualifying Series (QS 5000) division and will be held from March 21-25, 2022. In this event, we will have more than 200 surfers from Australia and New Zealand, who want to demonstrate their full potential to get good contracts at this time of their start as professionals.
This will be the first QS 5000 event of the Australia and Oceania WSL regional qualifying season in 2022. This event will be very important for the participating athletes, as it plays a very important role in qualifying for the Challenger Series of this year.
The Best Contenders – Oakberry Tweed Coast – 2022 Surf – Men’s & Women’s
Top 2 Men’s
- Micah Margieson
The young Australian belonging to the beach where this event will take place, Micah Margieson arrives at this competition occupying position #14 of the 2022 QS. Micah has had a very active start to the year, participating in almost all regional and international tournaments that it has been able to, but its results have not been as expected. Similarly, Margieson is one of the surfers who are surely going to be part of the podium in this tournament. Micah has finished #13 in 3 of the 4 events he has entered.
- Ethan Erwing
Although in this tournament we will have young surfers who are looking for a classification to be in the Championship Tour shortly, we will also have surfers like Ethan Erwing who is ranked #14 in the 2022 CT Rank, that is, he will be taking this tournament as a kind of practice for the following events of the highest category of the WSL.
Ethan is coming off an excellent 3rd place finish at the Hurley Pro Sunset Beach Championship Tour event where he scored 6085 points.
Top 2 Women’s
- Macy Callaghan
Another excellent Australian surfer who has had very good presentations in her career and, thanks to this, has managed to be on the Women Championship Tour for several years, Macy Callaghan, comes to this tournament with the firm conviction of showing that she is still at her highest competitive level and who wants to return, as soon as possible, to the Women CT. Macy comes from obtaining first place in the Sisstrevolution Central Coast Pro of the QS and added a total of 3000 points.
- Ellie Harrison
Finally, we have another young Australian surfer who needs to continue to prove that she is at her best and that her QS days are almost over, so she can move up to the top flight of the CT. Harrison has contested some very good events so far in 2022, but his best mark has been a third-place finish at the Phillip Island Pro, where she took third place.
